This multi-session, trauma-informed course explores the connection between the nervous system, trauma, addiction, and the body’s capacity for healing. Participants will learn how traumatic experiences and chronic stress can influence the brain, nervous system, emotions, behaviors, and patterns of substance use, while developing a deeper understanding of the body’s role in recovery.
Through an accessible exploration of the vagus nerve and autonomic nervous system, participants will learn about stress responses, nervous-system regulation, the connection between the brain and body, and how states of safety and connection can support healing. The course will also explore how trauma and addiction can shape behavioral patterns and why developing regulation skills can be an important part of creating lasting change.
Across multiple sessions, participants will practice evidence-informed techniques for supporting nervous-system regulation, including breathwork, mindful movement, grounding, sensory awareness, relaxation, and other body-based practices. Participants will learn to recognize their own signs of activation, shutdown, and dysregulation and develop practical strategies for responding to stress, cravings, triggers, and difficult emotions.
The course combines neuroscience, psychology, somatic awareness, and experiential learning to help participants move beyond simply understanding trauma and addiction toward developing practical skills for recovery. Participants will leave with a personalized toolkit of nervous-system regulation practices and a greater understanding of how they can support safety, resilience, self-awareness, and connection throughout their healing journey
